inthallo provides
patient capital
to companies, charities, and organisations with the potential to catalyse broad societal benefits.

We invest in publicly listed companies and make philanthropic grants to charitable organisations*.

We have a commitment to rapid but sustainable growth. We believe this can be achieved by focusing on a strong culture, a willingness to embrace uncertainty and a desire to invest in and capitalise on new technology. Innovative ventures, supported at key moments in time and with the benefit of luck, can have a disproportionate impact and drive transformational change.

In every aspect, we undertake extensive and diligent quantitative research to create a manageable funnel of ideas that we then research qualitatively. On the investment side, we focus on healthcare, technology, energy and materials. On the philanthropic side, we are sector agnostic.

healthcare

We look to support progress and back innovation.

We get particularly excited about companies whose products and services have the potential to improve the lives of significant patient populations, are backed by others in the industry, and are driven by excellent management teams.

We back companies that use technology to change the way we think about everything from diagnostics to drug discovery, medical devices to patient care.

disruptive tech

We believe that investing in organisations where technology is integral to the endeavour can bring scalable positive change.

We aim to identify organisations that understand the possibilities new technologies hold and are finding ways to unlock them. We look across supply chains and industries to find the most innovative commercial products and solutions.

energy

To create positive social and economic progress while navigating environmental change, we invest in companies with critical resources. We are focused on reducing fuel poverty, the medium-term transition, and long-term opportunities in renewables.

By backing companies that have quality resources and strong leadership teams, we hope to prevent resource vulnerability while supporting supply chain accountability. We have invested in companies with exciting pipelines and unique assets with resources that will be critical to both the energy transition and more immediate supply security.

We believe in the importance of keeping critical resources in public hands, rather than private equity ownership, where management teams are held to account for their practices. We support those with great governance and who are targeting operational excellence.

materials

We invest in companies seeking to exploit lower carbon raw materials that are building blocks for current and future generations, as well as businesses with innovative materials which can transform products or production processes.

We look to support businesses and projects whose products have long-term demand growth and are run by excellent management.

research & policy

We support organisations whose work is focused but not niche. Their insights are derived from research, data, industry & governmental partnerships, clinical practice, and relevant lived experience.

They design and provide practical policy and product proposals in collaboration and drive tangible positive outcomes for society.

networks

We are fascinated by organisations that achieve scale by leveraging existing networks to access new populations. For example by building partnerships with churches to deliver savings schemes alongside literacy and business training in hard-to-reach communities across Africa.

We aim to support organisations who are using these networks to positively impact multiple stakeholders in a complex world.

ourpartners

This is a selection of
our partners
and how they might change the future.

  • Is there a scenario under which all government departments in the UK, and beyond, engage with customers, patients and clients via Apps that are easily built by staff?

Does Netcall’s engagement with most NHS Acute Health Trusts and many Housing Associations catalyse a broader change to save staff time on menial tasks, increase system capacity through fewer errors and “no shows”, and increase “voter” happiness with government services?

  • How can we best leverage the knowledge and network of others to bridge a gap in healthcare funding that is deemed too risky, left field or small for some larger grant makers?

In partnership with Rosetrees we are able to take the role of venture philanthropists. Co-funding programmes which have been rigorously vetted by Rosetrees' team and scientific network and that we think are capable of bringing wide-reaching, meaningful change.

  • Five Talents and their extensive network of locally-led partners in eastern and central Africa create self-sustaining savings groups, which beyond growing their members incomes, result in healthier families, strong and sustainable communities, and dignified lives.

Is there a vision in which people living in extreme poverty embark on a journey of learning, saving and investing together and in which such empowered community members become the change makers who transform nations from within?

We ignore noise and embrace open-minded dialogue to reach contrarian conclusions. Our permanent capital allows us to tread where others are unable to commit.
